It seems there are many people coming on board with RAE … not all have a background from the previous Luxonis devices and cameras … let alone the Luxonis APIs.

Typically there would be expectations to be able to move RAE via simple python code, to stream camera feeds, reading image frames … all from python code … this would open up "programming" RAE to a lot of people. Not everyone here is wanting leading edge AI vision on day one … rather expecting to start small and grow into it. Even ROS is a major jump for some.

Running local is another benefit. Not everyone wants 24/7 cloud connections just to run RAE.

We are working to make rae more accessible with new updates.

    • try using chrome if you have not. I found things work as better on chrome.
    • that happens when using the manual control?
    • Does preview show? Sometimes the follow-me mode won't work unless there is image preview showing as well.

    Thanks,
    Jaka

    • RAE is great, however those wheels are too small, even struggle on thick carpet. I want to take my RAE outside, so added some tracks.

    • I managed to open my RAE by cutting the edges of the label/bottom plate to expose the screws.

One note is that below the label it's the same translucent plastic as the border/edges (which the LEDs shine through) so cutting the bottom label will change the way the LEDs glow on the floor and that may not be desirable (it's quite simple to mask it out again but just bringing it up).

      RAE construction seems pretty solid:
      - screws are screwed on the metal case, so you should be able to open/close RAE many times without any issues (just don't over-tighten the screws as it's aluminium).
      - wires inside are well attached and not hanging around

I had RAE running around my house a little bit and it grabbed a lot of hair/dust on the wheels, so opening RAE may be a necessary maintenance step.
