AlessandroB I modified /etc/resolv.conf (please find the file screenshot in attachment). I have to modify it any time I power up the system, I guess that it is part of the filesystem image.

But why do this?

I believe I did the same thing on my side: Wifi -> Macbook -> sharing to ETH dongle --> POE switch --> OAK4. I set the device to a dynamic dhcp and my internet access works out of the box. So do the oakctl apps.

I made a fresh installation with OS 1.15.0 and the camera is connected directly to internet without any shared connection.

From the camera I can ping whatever website, deb.debian.org included. I haven't modified any config file.

Nonetheless, when I try to run an app through oakctl I always get:

Is the device on DHCP? If you did an OTA update, the networking stays the same. Please do a factory reset (button inside the hole between M12 and M8 - hold for 10s untill light turns off). It should erase all data.

Perform setup and make sure device stays on DHCP and not on static IP. Which OS are you using on host to share the internet with the device?

I followed your instructions.

I'm able to run a python script on the device outside a container, but I'm not able to build any container with oakctl.

Basically, I can't download any package, therefore I can't get Python. I tried to use wget --spider to check the existence of the remote files and I find them, therefore I don't know why they're not resolved.

Can I do it without using oakctl, but using docker from inside the device? What surprises me is that I can see the containers with oakctl app list, but not with docker ps from inside the device.

I had a similar (but not exactly the same issue as you) when using internet connection sharing from my laptop to an oak4s. I couldn't build any apps - failing to pull docker images in my case. Adusting the mtu for the camera interface solved this issue for me maybe this could be worth a try.

ssh into camera and run the command:

ifconfig enP1p1s0 mtu 1400

I tried, but unfortunately it doesn't work.

I'd like to try pinging deb.debian.org from inside a container, but I don't know how to access the console of the default application. I can find the container (and its id) through oakctl, but not with docker from the device's terminal. Do you know whether that's feasible?

Otherwise, is there a way to cross-compile the app on the host and then to just transfer the whole container?

I'm just getting started with this platform, so not sure what is possible yet.

It looks like the cameras are using OCI containers you should be able to ssh into the camera and do something like to get a terminal inside a running application (container)

runc --root  /run/user/0/oak-agent/containers exec -t  <APP_GUID> /bin/bash

Depending on how the container was built it might not have ping (or other inet-tools) so you may have to install them inside the container - however I suspect this is a chicken and egg scenario for you.

If I come across anything else helpful I'll post a follow up

Your suggestion was very useful, thanks!

First, I pinged deb.debian.org from the device and it works. Then, I entered the default app container by means of the command that you suggested. Ping is not installed, but apt is, so I launched apt update: deb.debian.org can't be reached or something bad happens, as I only get Ign replies. This is exactly the same behavior that I get when I try to run an app with oakctl from my host PC.

I don't know whether that can be related to some settings of my Internet firewall, but it would surprise me, as I can normally use apt on my PC and I'm in the same network. Perhaps, I should try to use a different connection, but it's easier said than done.

This still seems like a DNS resolution issue… The ping works but the hostname fails.
Can you recheck what DNS you have set inside the container and try resolving directly?

cat /etc/resolv.conf
apt update
apt-get install -y dnsutils   # might fail if DNS is broken
dig deb.debian.org
# if dnsutils install fails:
getent hosts deb.debian.org

If /etc/resolv.conf doesn’t have a working nameserver (eg. 8.8.8.8 or whatever your network uses), you can try forcing it temporarily in the container:

echo "nameserver 8.8.8.8" > /etc/resolv.conf
echo "nameserver 1.1.1.1" >> /etc/resolv.conf

Then re-run apt update and see if it still gives the Ign: or Temporary failure resolving errors.

You can use oakctl when the new OS goes public (1.18+).
oakctl device update to update to latest release. Then you can do
oakctl app exec -i <container-id> /bin/bash to attach.

Keep in mind that the update to 1.18+ will lock the SSH so if you use it now, you will have to redo the setup or manually re-enable it.

I succeeded in building and installing a few apps. It was a DNS problem, as you suggested.

There is still one issue. When I enable an app, that correctly starts at reboot (I can see it from the logs), nonetheless I can't get the streams on the DepthAI Visualizer (it keeps on awaiting), but, if I stop and restart the container, the streams appear.

Do you have any ideas?

Something strange happens.

Although I enabled the app 046166b3-374c-4769-acc4-a273c0f1e706, when I reboot the device I get both that app and the default one in an unknown status (first image).

In the fourth image you have the logs.

When I start the app with oakctl app start container_id, I get the first bunch of logs and the viever as in the second image.

If I stop and restart the app, eventually I get the stream.

I don't know what happened, yesterday I didn't get the unknown status at the startup, nonetheless I experienced a similar behavior: I had to stop and restart the app to get the video stream.

Now I have two issues: the lack of the video stream at the first start and the unknown app status after the reboot.

The update solved the app management issue, the status now works as expected and the behavior seems to be consistent.

The default app works as expected also after a reboot, while the human-estimation-pose app needs to be stopped and restarted in order to get a valid stream on the webapp, although the logs are identical in both cases. I guess this is due to how the apps are implemented.

Have you experienced this behavior (I compiled the app that I found in your repo)?

Where can I find the code of the Default app, so that I can use it as a reference for further developments?
