Questions over Oak D POE setup

Hi, I'm new to using POE so I was stuck trying to power up my device.

So I went online and decided that I should be getting an injector to connect to both the camera, as well as my router.

My next question is that how I am able to program it through my Mac/ Windows since there wouldn't be any direct wire connection. They are in the same internet network, however how do I get to the point where my computer can "sense" the Oak-D?

This might sound like a noob question, I'm not very familiar with hardware so any help is much appreciated!

Hi tonytonggg,
as you mentioned, you should get a PoE injector or a PoE Ethernet Switch to power the device. You can read more about that here.
Regarding the second question, once you run the program, it will search for available devices that are connected either by USB port or are on the LAN (Local Area Network). We have a Getting started with OAK PoE devices tutorial that is worth checking out.

Thanks @Mojo I bought a poe injector here:

after checking out the specs and seeing that it delivers enough power.

However, after connecting to my wifi router, the Oak-D still does not light up.

I'm thinking of either getting 1 more POE to try, or just a refund or another model that does not use POE.

Hi @tonytonggg,
that is somewhat strange, maybe the injector is malfunctioning. I would suggest buying this TP-Link PoE injector, since it's more reliable and also not that expensive. If that doesn't work, feel free to ask further questions.

Hi @Mojo I just received the Poe injector you linked and happy to say that the Oak D finally could turn on!

It has a green-yellowish blink on the right side.

I also went to run a sample code on my mac from the docs and could see the camera feed on my computer screen.

I'm quite stoked as this is my first kickstarter I backed, and also my first cv hardware I've ever worked with!

Now I'm thinking what to do with it in a home setting. I stay in a safe place so maybe not a security feature, maybe something to do with pose...I once had a yoga pose idea so I have some image data ready for simple poses.

Any ideas/ interesting things being done with it on this forum? Nice to see what others have done.

Great that you got it working tonytonggg ! For application ideas, I would suggest checking our current KickStarter, where there are tons of video examples of what you can do. For home setting, maybe controlling smart home appliances with body/hand gestures (awesome demo here)?
