  • the way of using OAK-D Pro IR Illuminator

Hi,

I have a question about IR Illuminator in OAK-D Pro.

Here is my five question.

  1. if we set 0 mA, it is working like OAK-D S2? I would like to check whether 0 mA is only impact to its IR illuminator or not.
  2. if we would like to use fast charging port with USB Y adapter, how it is working? based on our test it seems not working with fast charging port.
  3. Should I only use a USB hub that provides power for its USB Y adapter?
  4. There seems to be a heat problem when setting 1.5mA. Is this a solvable issue? Do you have any guides on how to improve the heat problem?
  5. How should I set the IR output at a distance of 3m and 5m indoors? For example, is it possible to select between 1.5 mA, 1 mA or 0.5 mA? You want to know how to select an efficient and optimal output value.

Best regards,
Ryan.

    RyanLee Hello,

    1. Yes, setting to 0 (mA) will turn it off.
    2. Fast charging, as in standard for phones? Max power consumption would be about 8W, so there's no need for fast charging.
    3. You could either use powered usb hub, or Y adapter. They will both supply enough power to the OakD Pro
    4. Is it crashing due to overheating? I qould suggest lowering current, as usually you don't need to have it on max
    5. Yes, you can select it. On depthai_demo you have a slider so you can test it out easily.
      Thanks, Erik

    Hi EriK.

Thank you for your feedback. and i have some more question about it. Please check our question once more.

Yes, setting to 0 (mA) will turn it off.
    ==> Ok i am clear.

==> i understand now. we don't need to use its fast charging. But the program is down now when we are using tis fast charing. are there no way to avoid it??

You could either use powered usb hub, or Y adapter. They will both supply enough power to the OakD Pro
==> You mean if we are using the powerend usb hub, we don't even need to use its Y adapter? only one usb cable is ok from powered usb hub??

Is it crashing due to overheating? I qould suggest lowering current, as usually you don't need to have it on max
==> ok i will try and any other way to avoid its overheating problem to make our system as a fault safe??

Yes, you can select it. On depthai_demo you have a slider so you can test it out easily.
==> ok we will try it out.

    Thanks again.
    Best regards,
    Ryan.

      Hi RyanLee ,

      1. From my understanding, if you are using Y-adapter with fast charger it doesn't work, but if it's a normal charger it does work?
      2. Exactly, both of these will power the OAK.
      3. Not really, except to use less computational resources (eg. to disable video encoding/neural networks, if you are currently using it), which isn't a very ideal way to throttle heat generation.
        Thanks, Erik

==> Ok. if there is anymore issue with this. i will come back to you.

      Thanks. Erik.
