We're currently designing a gimbal and we'd like to integrate a Depthai enabled camera. Unfortunately, the current OAK camera models are not exactly gimbal friendly. Also, we need to integrate another separate camera into the gimbal, which makes everything very space consuming.
So we were thinking of using one of your small camera modules with arducam form factor and connecting them to a base board (probably OAK-FCC3), which is located away from the gimbal.
However, all base boards work with flat cables, which would need to run from the gimbal to the board, and thus hinder gimbal movement and making the whole gimbal look kind of "makeshift". If the cables were normal round ones, we could fit them through hollow shafts in our gimbal motors, and run them through the whole gimbal without exposing them.
So, my question is: Does anyone have an idea how I can properly integrate a camera with Depthai into our gimbal without running these flat cables through the air? Is there a technical option I have missed? Maybe it's somehow possible to connect USB cams to a baseboard (USB cables would be way easier to handle)?
The following shows our design for a normal arducam, to give you an Idea of what we're attempting. The red body is the arducam that would be swapped for the Depthai enabled one.
