What camera would you recommend we use for a project in the interior of a large van? Our target distance when using stereo is ideally less than 1m, and we would like to use the RGB camera for distances of a few cm up to 1m.

The vehicle application indicates we should use a fixed focus lens, but it seems that lens will not handle the varying distances of our application. Are we better off adding an additional RGB camera for the closer distances?

Hi @BradSteiner ,
What depth accuracy would you require to 1m (what's the application / what is depth info used for)? Is RGB really required from few cm to 1m (eg. it's not required for barcode/QR code scanning). Are vibrations inside a van really that bad that AF wouldn't be able to keep the lens in place?
My initial guess would be OAK ToF, which variant depends on color cam resolution requirement.
Thoughts?
Thanks, Erik

The depth will be used for a pick and place type of application, so depth accuracy would need to be less than 1 cm. We are looking to perform a task similar to barcode scanning and the RGB camera in this case could be very close to the target. We have not done any testing with vibrations yet, it is possible that the AF may not be an issue for us. It seems like the OAK ToF would be a good option, how would this compare to the OAK-D Pro W? It would be able to get depth data from a closer range?

BradSteiner so depth accuracy would need to be less than 1 cm.

Here are our depth accuracy measurements for the ToF. 1cm error is generally feasible but can quickly rise above the threshold if incorrectly configured. The ToF performs badly when there are reflective materials in the scene, keep that in mind.

BradSteiner OAK ToF would be a good option, how would this compare to the OAK-D Pro W?

Wide FOV cameras usually have a worse depth since there is more distortion on the camera lenses which has to be removed. SR POE would still be best for close range since it features both ToF and stereo sensors which you can play around with.
