  • OAK-D lite keeps on crashing on RPi 4

After a fresh install on RPi 4 the demo program keeps on crashing with the below error message.

USB Connection speed: UsbSpeed.SUPER

[1844301061F5620E00] [1.1.2] [37.796] [system] [critical] Fatal error. Please report to developers. Log: 'Fatal error on MSS CPU: trap: 00, address: 00000000' '0'

I wonder if you have any advice?

  • tboive I start to think the camera is defective. I can feel it is getting warmer quite quickly and then it is crashing in 15/20 seconds.

Probably is the case, just wanted to make sure. Some Oak-D-Lite units have a defect where they will overheat and crash when booted. It's a HW issue.
Please write to support@luxonis.com so we can replace the device.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi @tboive
Try updating the depthai version to the latest (2.24.0.0). Maybe try running some of the examples from depthai-python repo to see if they work as expected.

Thanks,
Jaka

Hi @tboive
I'm thinking it could be a power issue. Could you try and run the examples from luxonis/depthai-pythontree/main/examples? Something like rgb_preview would not be as stressful to the device as the depthai demo. Also could you provide additional power to the rpi to see if it makes a difference?

Thanks,
Jaka

Hi Jaka,

Thank you for helping. I am running separate power supplies for the RPi and OAK. The RPi is running with it's original PS. I start to think the camera is defective. I can feel it is getting warmer quite quickly and then it is crashing in 15/20 seconds.

The rgb_preview is working, but I need the object detection function (that's why I bought the OAK).

I wonder if you have any further advice?

I have two threads running on this issue, one for RPi image you provided and one for using the installation instructions.
