RrlaferlaSep 29, 2021Post #1 Wednesday, September 29, 2021 12:35 PMWhich is better for surveillance camera, fixed or autofocus? Why?
erikSep 29, 2021Post #2 Wednesday, September 29, 2021 8:36 PMrlaferla Probably auto-focus - as your camera won't have any vibrations. That's the only downside of auto-focus; when the camera is under vibration, it will cause the lens to vibrate freely which will create blurry (color) frames.
BrandonSep 29, 2021Post #3 Wednesday, September 29, 2021 10:57 PMOh and as another datapoint @rlaferla - as long as your camera will be at least 1.5 feet from what it's looking at, fixed-focus will be fine. Almost all security cameras are fixed focus for this reason. As then there's no risk of auto-focus hunting because of bugs close to the camera/etc.
