Hey guys,

This is perhaps a follow on to another users question about night vision (https://discuss.luxonis.com/d/233-night-vision-feature-in-depthai-camera), but my query isn't strictly related so I thought it best to start a new topic.

So, is there a way to achieve "night-vision" without sacrificing the quality of the camera during day light hours? Basically I have an ANPR type camera set up with OAK-D, and Its at a stage where i want to deploy it 24/7. However, reading the post linked to at the start of this post, I note i'd need to replace one of the camera modules and install IR LED Lighting.

Will that camera module (this for reference) effect the general daylight working of the OAK-D?

Thanks!
Jon

Hello JDanks, I actually have an OAK-D with these cameras (no ir) so I can try it out during daylight and provide feedback/screenshots tomorrow morning🙂
    Thanks, Erik

And to add to that, @luxonis-Sachin has done some testing of NoIR filter cameras from ArduCAm in bright sun. Left is with IR filter, and left is without IR filter:

So you can see that there is some loss of information because of the IR presence in day-time, but it's not a show-stopper in many cases.

It's worth noting that we fixed an over-exposure bug after this data was taken, so likely the IR will perform better - so erik 's data is probably the best to work off of.

Brandon Thanks so much! I just wanted to get an idea of what I was working with before buying any pieces of kit that may not be of any use!
