We are evaluating OAK-D LR for an outdoor industrial installation in the Gulf, mounted on a
moving machine with no shade. Design ambient is 48–50 °C, against the published
−20 to +50 °C range. Power draw looks modest (2.5–3 W base, ~5 W with AI, depth and encode),
so I expect solar gain rather than self-heating to dominate.
1. Is the +50 °C figure ambient or case? The docs qualify it as "with the VPU fullyutilised" — what is the corresponding case limit?
2. What derating applies between 40 and 50 °C ambient? At what point does throttlingbegin with AI, stereo and encoding all active?
3. Our duty cycle is event-driven, not continuous inference. Does lower average VPUutilisation meaningfully extend the usable ambient range?
4. Has anyone here run OAK hardware outdoors above 45 °C ambient with direct solarload? I am interested in real field experience more than datasheet numbers — sunshadedesign, housing colour, mounting orientation, anything that worked or did not.
5. Thermal shutdown is documented at 105 °C junction. Does the device recover automatically, and is junction temperature readable through the API so we can monitor and pre-emptively throttle ourselves?
Thanks.
