Intermittent incomplete ImgFrame error in Luxonis receive loop

Hi Luxonis team,

We are intermittently seeing the following error in our Luxonis receive loop running the C++ application:

Error in Luxonis receive loop: ImgFrame doesn't have enough data to encode specified frame, required 10973688, actual 10967187. Maybe metadataOnly transfer was made?

Our environment:
Device model: OAK4-D
Connection: PoE+
Host OS: Windows11
Luxonis OS version: Luxonis OS RVC4 1.23.1

I would like to understand whether it indicates a corrupted frame, a transport issue, or a metadata mismatch.

Hey Annie - this means the received ImgFrame payload is smaller than the size indicated by its metadata. It is not the normal metadata-only case, which would contain no image payload.

Please discard/log the affected frame and share your DepthAI version plus the pipeline/receive-loop code. Since this is PoE, it would also be useful to test the link bandwidth/latency and update from OS 1.23.1 to the latest version.

Hi Oskar,
The behavior is intermittent. We've only seen it occasionally, typically after the application has been running continuously for around 10 hours or longer.
The current DepthAI version is 3.7.1.
For testing the PoE link bandwidth and latency, do you have a recommended procedure or tool? For example, would you recommend using iperf3, ping, or another method to verify the network connection between the host and the OAK4-D?
So far, I've verified that:
I can successfully ping the OAK4-D without packet loss.
The Ethernet link speed is as expected.

Is there anything else you would recommend checking to help determine whether this is a transport issue?

Hey Annie - since ping and link speed look good, I’d next use our PoE and XLink bandwidth/latency tests rather than iperf3, as these exercise the OAK data path directly.

Also, please try updating to DepthAI 3.8.0 and a newer Luxonis OS version, then re-test the long-running workload. If it recurs, please share the test results and pipeline code.
