Calibration OAK-D-PRO hangs at INTRINSIC CALIBRATION

Dear,

I've gone through the steps of calibrating the OAK D PRO using Linux Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS. It went fine up until the INTRINSIC CALIBRATION, the 3 images of the cameras pop up and then it stays there forever.

I do get a warning saying:

Warning: Ignoring XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland on Gnome. Use QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland to run on Wayland anyway

Hi,

The problem isn't with your camera — it's most likely an issue with the calibration tool (ccv2) running under Wayland (default on Ubuntu 24.04). Qt applications can hang like this when not properly set up. Solution: before starting calibration, run this command to force Qt to use X11 (in the same terminal window u are running the script from):

export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb

Then launch the calibration again.

It doesn't seem to work. Could it be a reason that I'm working from a virtual environment?

Also, I'm currently running the script:

python3 calibrate.py -s [SQUARE_SIZE_IN_CM] --board [BOARD] -nx [squaresX] -ny [squaresY] -m process

Since I've taken all the photographs already, that went fine, but the calibration stage gives problems. Or do I have to go through a clean calibration session and using your 'export' suggestion?

Hi,

the virtual environment shouldnt be a problem — but you need to run this in the same terminal as the calibration:

export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb

Then run your python3 calibrate.py command right after that in the same terminal.

Also, your current command uses -m process, which skips the GUI step — so the fix won’t help there. Try doing a full clean calibration (no -m process) to test if it works.

It got fixed!

export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb

did the trick. But I think Ubuntu noticed this automatically, because I eventually got at the same 'hanging' stage as the first time. After running the calibration a pop up comes up saying 'unknown - 'cover image' ready'. There is nothing like a commit button or similar.

I was working on a pretty small screen so it could be that I've missed info from the terminal. I eventually just pressed space randomly and that basically was the key, from there on I could accept every step/image with hitting 'space' and got eventually the green finish screen.
