I’m noticing with the sdk it takes roughly 10 to 15 seconds to connect to the device before we can take a photo or start a video feed. The work around I have in mind is to just set it up to constantly stream video and just grab the images as needed, this doesn’t seem ideal for device lifetime or performance.

any advice for just taking a photo?

You can set up the pipeline to only produce images on trigger. Something like this example but instead of using script node to send the command, you send it from host side like done here: https://docs.luxonis.com/software/depthai/examples/rgb_camera_control/
