Failed to find device after booting, error message: X_LINK_DEVICE_NOT_FOUND

I am using OAK-D S2 in Ubuntu 20.04 on Virtual Box. I followed all the steps outlined in https://docs.luxonis.com/projects/api/en/latest/install/#virtual-box. I cloned the depthai and git and ran python3 depthai_demo.py -gt cv. I hear a ping from the computer and the green light in the camera turns ON. After a few seconds, I hear another ping and the light turns OFF. Attaching a screenshot of the output below.

Additional info: I have also tried running the udev command below with no results:

sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger

Can you try running depthai-python/examples/ColorCamera/rgb_preview.py example to check if it works properly? The error log points to a dependency error, not device/depthai issue.

jakaskerl I get the same Runtime error. Also, I hear the same pings where the green light on the camera turns ON for a few seconds and then turns OFF on the second ping.

Can you run dmesg output and post it here?
I'm wondering if perhaps the USB device is not recognized after reconnecting.

It looks like the device disconnects and connects with a different ID.

Was the device working outside the VM? The "failed to find device after booting" can be relate to USB issues or a power issue. If your supply is not capable of providing enough power, the device will brown out resulting in that error.

jakaskerl Yes it works outside the VM. I am connected to the USB 3.0 port in my laptop and also using the cable that came along with the camera.

Great! Then it's likely something with the USB rules.
Did you follow the whole instructions for VM installation (did you have any issue/uncertainties), especially:

The last step is to add the USB Intel Loopback device. The depthai device boots its firmware over USB, and after it has booted, it shows up as a new device.
This device shows just up when the depthai/OAK is trying to reconnect (during runntime, so right after running a pipeline on depthai, such as :bash: python3 depthai_demo.py).
It might take a few tries to get this loopback device shown up and added, as you need to do this while depthai is trying to connect after a pipeline has been built (and so it has at that point now booted its internal firmware over USB2).

Tried it on a fresh windows install, with Ubuntu 20.04 running in VirtualBox.

installed the VB extension for xHCI
plugged the device in, added the usb2 mode device [0001]
replugged to make the passthrough work
downloaded and installed dependencies and depthai-python
ran examples/ColorCamera/rgb_preview.py - (crashed with your error of course)
added USB3 device [0100] while the device was booted
replugged the device to enable it
reran the preview script and it worked no problem.

jakaskerl Sorry for the late response. I got busy with some other stuff. Thanks for the detailed steps. I recreated them and now the camera works without any issues. I think I missed replugging the device after adding the USB3 device which led to the failure.
