Hey everyone,
So we meant to post this a bit ago, but we finally got to share some of what we had been working on for disaster recovery on unmanned aerial systems:
https://www.intelligent-aerospace.com/unmanned/article/14040048/uas-drone-emergency-safe-landing
Such a system is a stepping-stone to allow safe BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) as it allows the aircraft to land or ditch without harming people or property - even if it say loses its prop, loses a control surface, gets icing, etc. - or all of those.
When this happens when a pilot has control, he'll look around, figure out where there aren't people/buildings/cars/etc. and either land the aircraft or if it's lost too much functionality to land, he/she will ditch it safely.
This system does the same thing, using on-board computer vision and AI to perceive the world real-time, and make the same decisions based on that perception.
Best,
Brandon & the Luxonis team
