  • Oak-D Pro active illumination problems

Hi,

Seems we can't get the active illumination (either flood or pattern) to work well and coherently, even when using the USB splitter to enable additional current.

Yesterday the pattern projector worked only at 1000ma, but today impossible to see a pattern when above 900ma. And this, when I should be able to go up to 1200 according to specs and example.

We have similar problem with the flood projector, impossible to get it at higher values.

Also, even when using those at around 900 in a dark room, the picture is fully dark even at a distance of 5-6 meters only, the projectors don't seems to be effective.

How can we use the projectors at full power (using both simultaneously would enable us to use the oak-d pro at farther distance), why one day it works fine at a specific power and the day after only lower power work?

    Hi Amihai ,
I believe the max illumination is actually at about 765mA, not 1200mA, due to duty cycle decreasing. We will add that to the docs as well, as it's counterintuitive.

So you're saying that depending on the duty cycle, I'm asking too much from the sensor so he just stop?

Isn't there any way to automatically get the maximum possible illumination?

Amihai TLDR max illumination will be at 765mA, then it will start decreasing. We plan to add new API that will allow users to set laser percentage, where 100% would be 765mA.

Is the 765mA max value is for the dot projector only or is also for the flood light projector?

And if not, what is the max for the flood light projector?

I'm confused now, I now tried to check the power for both illuminator using the demo GUI on my Windows PC, I see that I can enable both of them up to their max value and also can clearly see the difference between say 1000mA and 1200mA…

That is for the dot projector. I am not sure what's the value (in mA) for max power of the illumination LED.
